Executive director to speak at Living Lightly Fair in Muncie

Susan Haller, executive director of Indiana Foodways Alliance, will speak at the Living Lightly Fair at Minnetrista, 1200 N. Minnetrista Parkway, in Muncie on Sept. 20.

The Indiana Foodways Alliance also will be a vendor at the fair's Green Marketplace. Fair attendees can join the Alliance by stopping by Indiana Foodways' booth or by going online NOW. When you join Indiana Foodways, you'll receive a set of five Indiana Foodways greeting cards that can be used for any occasion.

Susan will speak from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in the Theater at Minnetrista. Her topic is "A Food Alliance Worth Building." Buy local is the No. 1 trend in food for 2008. Benefits such as low-impact economic development for communities, consumer safety and nutrition, and reduced environmental impact are just a few of the issues addressed by the trend. Learn how Hoosiers and others are working together to make the buy local trend a sustainable part of community culture.

INDIANA FOOD FACT: Sugar cream pie also is known as Hoosier pie. There are many treasured family recipes for this Indiana signature dessert. The pie slice behind the Indiana Foodways Alliance logo is a representation of this traditional Hoosier pie.
