I love food. By the time I am finished with one meal, I am usually thinking about what I want for my next meal. My love of food initially sparked an interest in this project. Once I learned more about Indiana Foodways Alliance, I realized I already had a few connections to the organization. I grew up in Fishers, Ind., the headquarters of IFA. I also interned at the Minnetrista Cultural Center, which holds a farmers market promoting local farmers and products.
When I have time to watch TV, I find myself settling on repeats of “Unwrapped” on the Food Network. I really enjoy finding out how food is produced and manufactured. I also watched “Emeril Live” and “Iron Chef” when I was younger.
My favorite foods include anything made with chocolate. I am not a big meat eater, but I do like a good bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich. I go through phases of what I like to eat. Sometimes I crave pizza, and sometimes I crave asparagus. During the summer, I can eat cartons of blueberries in one sitting. The best food I have ever eaten was in Europe. Everything tastes much more fresh and flavorful overseas. The fruits and vegetables from the grocery stores here cannot compare to fresh produce sold in markets in the south of France. I try not to buy or eat too much frozen or packaged food.
I hope I can bring a lot to the IFA team. As the public relations specialist, I will be mainly utilizing my writing skills for this project. I have experience writing for the student media team at Ball State's Marketing and Communications Department, as well as varied work experience for Cardinal Communications, the Ball State journalism department's student-run public relations and advertising agency; the Fishers, Ind., Chamber of Commerce; and Minnetrista Cultural Center in Muncie, Ind.
